Howard Univ. Squares Off Against Yale In "Great Debate" /
With respect to the 50th Anniversary of The Freedom Riders, Toast2that.COM would like to bring you what we call, a black history update. This weekend, the Howard University debate team stood alongside their opponents--the Yale University Debate Association--for what is probably one of the most profound moments in HBCU history. Fifty years ago, this pair would have been unlikely--a historically black institution and, let's face it, a historically white institution in a competition of the mind. It is a sign of the times--a sign that Americans have moved beyond the notion that blacks are somehow intellectually disadvantaged in comparison to their white counterparts.
Take a look at this footage from the Howard University hosted event. While you do, close your eyes and think of those Freedom Riders, both black and white, who fought and died to sustain racial equality in this country. We hope that, no matter what race, religion or ethnicty that you belong, you are touched by this epic moment.
