Principal Minaj: Nicki acts as ‘principal of the day’ /

Yesterday, pop star Nicki Minaj made a surprise visit at Collins Academy High School in Chicago to congratulate the 400 students and teachers for their hard work in maintaining a 92% attention rate. While wearing a platinum-blonde wig and a mustard & navy- colored printed jumpsuit, Nicki had an important message to share with the students –that education has been key to her success.

"I am a young, female mogul before I am an artist. As a business woman there isn't a single day where I don't use my education or acquire new knowledge to ensure my success. Regardless of where you are today, with education you can take yourself where you want to be," she says.

Collins Academy won a nationwide contest which was sponsored by the non-profit Get Schooled. The Get MotivatED Challenge was a six week competition that launched this spring among 25 high schools to improve daily attendance, with some pretty nice prizes at stake. Not only did Collins Academy receive a surprise visit from Nicki, their top students also received three $10,000 college scholarships.

It’s awesome seeing Nicki Minaj take time out to give back to our youth. It’s pivotal, they are our future! Let’s have a toast to that.

Catch up with Nicki:

She will perform at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards, where she's nominated for Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist and Top Rap Album. The BET Awards, in which she's nominated for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, follow on June 26.
