Speaker Boehner Plays Hardball With the President--And Your Money! /

Last week, President Obama told the Congress that he would veto any bill that extends the payroll tax holiday by using the Keystone XL oil pipeline. The President has said that he will consider Keystone after doing the necessary research on its environmental impacts, but has iterated that he does not want it attached to the payroll tax holiday bill. So, what did House Republicans do? Attach it to the payroll tax holiday bill—up against the President’s threat of a veto. On Tuesday, the House of Representatives called the President’s bluff by sending a bill to the Senate, extending the payroll tax holiday—a $1,000 tax cut for 160 million working Americans—only under the condition that the President sign on to the construction of this massive pipeline. More than likely the Senate will kill the bill. Remember we are up against the clock! If Congress does not extend this tax cut, middle class families will see a sharp increase in taxes.
