A Story to Follow: NTSB Attempts to Ban All Cell Phone Usage Behind the Wheel /

We know that some of our readers don’t follow the news, but lately the government has been tossing around the idea of banning all cell phones while drivingincluding non-handheld devices. The National Transportation Safety Board has said that when drivers are talking on the phone they are distracted, regardless of how they’re using the phone. NTSB carries a substantial amount of weight and though they do not create laws, they heavily influence them. The good thing is that the NTSB has been receiving an overwhelming amount of pushback for the suggestion. States are making the point that even if talking behind the wheel is banned altogether—how will law enforcement be able to distinguish whether a driver is talking on the phone or singing to the radio? And speaking of the radio—can someone tell us what’s so different about a driver talking on a hands-free cellular device and listening to the premiere of a new song on the radio? If one is a distraction, wouldn’t the other be one, too? And if that’s the case, maybe we should ban radios!
