Senate Republicans to House Republicans: Pass the Damn Payroll Tax Cut Bill /

So remember the Payroll Tax Cut we’ve been yapping about? The one that the President and Democrats having been urging Congress to pass, so that middle class families are not subjected to a $1,000 tax increase on Jan. 1. Well, the President and Democrats just got a new ally—Senate Republicans! Yesterday, John McCain (R-AZ), along with his Republicans friends in the U.S. Senate, called on Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to whip his House Republicans in order and pass the damn payroll tax compromise that passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in the Senate. The tax compromise would extend the tax cut for two months. Boehner refused—or at least his House Republicans did. On yesterday, Maryland representative Steny Hoyer attempted to bring the tax cut bill, passed by the Senate, to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote. Watch the Republican majority walk clean off the floor of the House when Mr. Hoyer brings up the bill:

Speaker Boehner Plays Hardball With the President--And Your Money! /

Last week, President Obama told the Congress that he would veto any bill that extends the payroll tax holiday by using the Keystone XL oil pipeline. The President has said that he will consider Keystone after doing the necessary research on its environmental impacts, but has iterated that he does not want it attached to the payroll tax holiday bill. So, what did House Republicans do? Attach it to the payroll tax holiday bill—up against the President’s threat of a veto. On Tuesday, the House of Representatives called the President’s bluff by sending a bill to the Senate, extending the payroll tax holiday—a $1,000 tax cut for 160 million working Americans—only under the condition that the President sign on to the construction of this massive pipeline. More than likely the Senate will kill the bill. Remember we are up against the clock! If Congress does not extend this tax cut, middle class families will see a sharp increase in taxes. See how Speaker Boehner explains his decision to defy the President:

No Refund Checks If the Gov't Shuts Down /

Left: Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Right: Speaker of the House John Boeher (R-OH)
Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters that the government will shut down on Friday, April 8. Reid said that he became less optimistic about a deal with Republicans after Speaker Boehner insisted that language prohibiting federal funding for abortion be published in the spending bill. Well, kids, here goes nothing! On Friday, April 8, the government will SHUT DOWN! I hope you weren't counting on that refund check, either. If you were, you should know that the IRS will halt the processing of all paper refund checks until the government is up and running again. I know, sucks for me, too!
