Editor's Pick: Chris Brown feat. Tank - 'F**k the City Up' /

I've always said that Chris Brown had some smooth singing chops, but Tank comes on this song shuts it all the way down vocally. Still #teamBreezy though!

Stylist to the Stars June Ambrose Helps Trina Debut New Look & New Music /

Last night, Rapper Trina debuted a new look and new music on June Ambrose's new reality show on VH1, called 'Styled By June.' I was pretty confident in Trina's new look (let's face it, when you're styled by June Ambrose, what could go wrong) but the music I wasn't so sure of. Perhaps I'm becoming an old prune, but I believe there are some artists who can do this dance/rave type music, and it works for them (I always use Usher as a great example) but then you have your artists that step into that world and it seems forced and desperate. So Trina doing dance pop ....

Lil' Kim Unveils 'Keys In the City' Artwork /

Last week, we debuted a new track from Ms. G.O.A.T. herself, called 'Keys In the City' and it featured Young Jeezy. The song has since created a major buzz online, and the femcee heightened that buzz when she took to twitter to reveal the single's cover art. If you haven't heard the track, listen after the jump.
Recently, Kimmie Blanco rocked the 'Rip the Runway' stage. Take a look:

Nicki Cover1 Hot Shots: Nicki Minaj Covers Complex Magazine
Cover girl Nicki Minaj looks stunning on the cover of this month's issue of Complex Magazine. The singer/rapper is continuing her assult on the media--readying the release of her new album. Of course it wouldn't be right if we didn't bring you an exclusive excerpt from the article, before it hits the stands:

You’re on track to hit all your marks in 2012. Grammy solo set? Check. New album and tour? Check, check. Five million in sales? Possibly. What else?
Nicki: I’m working on my fragrance and my apparel line. They took stuff that I’ve worn, focused on what I like, and then they started doing sketches. They’re pretty amazing. I was like “Oh my God, the kids are going to love this.” It’s not gonna get done overnight, but I know that it’s something they’re going to love.
What’s your off-stage persona?
Nicki: I’m the biggest homebody. But I’ve been like this. Nothing about me has changed since I got fame. I never liked to go to clubs. I never liked to go out. I don’t know where that public craziness came from. I was always like a comedian to my friends and family, but in a lot of ways I’m shy. I think people read my shyness as being mean. They misinterpret it. The first and only person who ever called me out for being shy was Wayne.

T2T Premiere: Nicki Minaj feat. Chris Brown- 'Right By My Side' /

#ILike. Though I hate the fine line that she walks between hip-hop and pop, I do really like the song. It kind of reminds me of a Katy Perry song featuring Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj. Check it out below:

Katy Perry Unsuccessfully Covers Jay-Z & Kanye West's 'Ni**as In Paris' /

I've seen some really great pop covers of classic rap songs--this, however, was a huge disappointment. Firstly, I didn't feel the same passion in the song that the original has. In my opinion, that's essential to a great cover-- though you may never sound like the original, if you can't capture the emotions of the original song then you should probably leave it alone.

Perry should have probably taken some notes from these folks:

Is Bey Trying to Be Funny? The Pop Star Announces Not "4" but 3 U.S. Concert Dates /

beyonce 2012 Shes Back: Beyonce Announces Comeback Concerts

A few days ago, Beyonce's people announced that she would be returning to the stage just several months after giving birth to her daughter Blue Ivy. The singer will be hitting New Jersey's Revel Resort stage on three different nights: May 25, 26 & 27. Tickets for the concert go on sale April 6. Click here for details. Now, even though most Beyonce fans are excited to see the star back on stage, some are livid that the singer is returning with only a three-date tour. Hey, you can never please everyone at the same time. Sure Bey knows that by now.

Editor's Pick: Toni Braxton- 'I Heart You' /

toni braxton 6a Hot Shots: Toni Braxton Shoots I Heart You Video
Toni Braxton on the set of new video for 'I Heart You'

I've always loved Toni Braxton's voice and it does shine on this track. I'm just over the whole dance phase. Actually, I take that back--I don't mind dance music, it's just that I have a major problem with established R&B acts trying to shimmy thier way into this genre. Usher was able to do it seemlessly, I'm not sure it will work out as well for Braxton. This is the leading single off of her forthcoming album and frankly, this isn't a good representation of why we all love the sultry, deep-voiced diva. Your thoughts?

Wale Releases Video for Title Track to His Widely Received 'Ambition' Album (Official Video Inside) /

If you read my review of Wale's 'Ambition,' you will see that I've loved this song from the moment I heard it. With rap music, it's very hard to inspire people to do the right thing and I'm not even sure that Wale is ready for the task--but I can respect his courageous attempt to step up to the plate and take on that role. I see you, D.C. ... I hear that's what they call him over at Maybach.

Editor's Pick: Drake Covers GQ Magazine--Talks About Not Being Considered A 'Hard' Rapper (Excerpt Inside) /

Drake-GQ-Cover-2012
Drizzy Drake just so happened to appear on one of the 3 covers of GQ Magazine’s first ever ‘Style Bible’ for men; with Everything a man needs to know to look his best in 2012. He’s in good company, too, since he’s sharing the spotlight with actors John Slattery and the adorable Dave Franco. I must say, Drake looks very dapper in his sleek & slim fitting suit, seafoam green tie and huge grin. Although, I wouldn’t necessarily consider the YMCMB rapper quite stylish; outside of GQ, Drake’s style may not be on point but his SWAG definitely is.

On not being a “hard” rapper:

“Rap now is just being young and fly and having your shit together. The mood of rap has changed.
I’m actually really happy. I’m trying to find the same feelings that I had for women when I had very little going on, which is tough. When I was in my mom’s house, I had nowhere to go, no real obligations. My girlfriend at the time, if she was mad at me, my day was all fucked-up. I didn’t have anything else. And that made for some of the best music, I think, to date. Records where I felt small.”

On Why He’s Been Successful:

“I’ve never been reckless—it’s always calculated. I’m mischievous, but I’m calculated.”

On His Father:

“Me and my dad are friends. We’re cool. I’ll never be disappointed again, because I don’t expect ianything anymore from him. I just let him exist, and that’s how we get along. We laugh. We have drinks together. But I spent too many nights looking by the window, seeing if the car was going to pull up. And the car never came.”

drake gq 123

On his promiscuous past:

“There’s just a time where it was like, just getting pussy. Where I was in that sort of ‘I’m young, I’m going to disconnect from my emotions and just do what everyone else tells me I should do and just be a rapper and have my fun.’ And for me as a person, it just doesn’t work. I just need something else. The seconds after a man reaches climax, that’s like the realest moment of your life. If I don’t want you next to me in that fifteen, twenty seconds, then there’s something wrong.”

Behind-the-Scenes:
I dig how intellectual Drake is. I hope the young kids catch on to that, too! The more and more I see him in a suit, the more curious I become of what an Obama biopic, starring Drake, would be like. Hhhhmmmm ...
