Indiana Republican Proposes Bill to Fine Popstars $25 for Screwing Up The National Anthem /


With Indiana’s unemployment rate standing at nine percent (higher than the national average) and even more folks losing their homes and life savings, Indiana Senator Vaneta Becker (R-IN) has come up with a bright idea—let’s fine singers who mangle the National Anthem a measly $25. Huh? With so many things plaguing the American people, the only thing that this senator can think about introducing to the floor of the state Senate is a bill that would fine singers ashtray change (really? $25) for skipping or mangling the words to the Star Spangled Banner. Where they do that at?

"It’s not like we’re going after anyone’s ability to sing. It’s more that we just want them to respect the words and the tune as it was originally intended and we normally sing it," said Senator Vaneta Becker, who is proposing the bill.

Christina Aguilera famously mangled the words to the National Anthem during her live rendition of the song at 2011’s Super Bowl. But why do conservatives in this country treat the National Anthem as if it is a privilege to sing. Forgive me for being on my Malcolm X, but really? The land of the free? Well, as Americans we should be free to sing the song as we see fit. In the state of Massachusetts, a singer is fined $100 for singing the anthem with any “embellishments”—that’s code for singing it with any type of soul. Marvin Gaye caused an uproar in the conservative community when he performed this soul-stirring rendition of the song at the 1983 NBA finals:

XTINA: "I'm human, too" /

No doubt, powerhouse pop diva Christina Aguilera has had a bumpy year. She will go down in history as the singer who famously flubbed the National Anthem, slipped on stage at the Grammys (following a stunning performance) and most recently, got arrested for public intoxication. But the five-time Grammy award-winning songstress is laughing all the way to the bank. She recently signed on as the only female coach for the highly anticipated NBC show, The Voice. While promoting the new show, Aguilera took questions from reporters about her past year, head-on. When asked about her recent mishaps, she acknowledged that she’s gone through a “really hard divorce” calling the experience “life-uprooting.” The “Beautiful” singer went on to say, “I’m human, too, and people make mistakes.” Well, I hope Xtina can get it together soon; she’s got a lot of folks rooting for her. Btw, I just read that Burlesque—the singer’s first feature film is on track to gross $100 million! Yea, she is laughing all the way to the bank. Yo, Xtina, let me hold 20.
