Cover girl Nicki Minaj looks stunning on the cover of this month's issue of Complex Magazine. The singer/rapper is continuing her assult on the media--readying the release of her new album. Of course it wouldn't be right if we didn't bring you an exclusive excerpt from the article, before it hits the stands:

You’re on track to hit all your marks in 2012. Grammy solo set? Check. New album and tour? Check, check. Five million in sales? Possibly. What else?
Nicki: I’m working on my fragrance and my apparel line. They took stuff that I’ve worn, focused on what I like, and then they started doing sketches. They’re pretty amazing. I was like “Oh my God, the kids are going to love this.” It’s not gonna get done overnight, but I know that it’s something they’re going to love.
What’s your off-stage persona?
Nicki: I’m the biggest homebody. But I’ve been like this. Nothing about me has changed since I got fame. I never liked to go to clubs. I never liked to go out. I don’t know where that public craziness came from. I was always like a comedian to my friends and family, but in a lot of ways I’m shy. I think people read my shyness as being mean. They misinterpret it. The first and only person who ever called me out for being shy was Wayne.

T2T Premiere: In An Attempt to Stay Relevant, Madonna teams up with Nicki Minaj, Again on 'I Don't Give A' /

I normally love Madonna, but lately I've been getting the feeling that her music has been forced and in many ways reflects a desperate attempt by the reigning queen of pop to remain relevant--even after almost 40 years of relevancy. This is where I believe legends ruin their legacy. Madonna has never been a vocalist like say, Celine Dion or the late great Whitney Houston--she has managed to remain relevant all these years because of her image and her ability to push the boundaries. But lately, with the exception of the Super Bowl, when I see her I get the feeling that she's not acting her age (she has to be pushing 60). The way she's clinging to artists like Nicki Minaj and M.I.A is almost devastating to watch. Even with massive promo her singles are still under-performing on the charts. That doesn't mean that people don't still love and adore Madonna, it just means that her time has passed and from a career standpoint, I think it's best she realized that. Stick to special concerts or do a Vegas run, performing some your many hits.Your thoughts?

Really, Madge! Rapping? Madonna's new album 'MDNA' will be released on March 24.

As a student of hip hop, I find Nicki Minaj's music highly offensive. To me, I believe Nicki is the perfect example of a sell out. I think she is chasing Lady Gaga's success (which will probably be short-lived) and is willing to sell out her music in order to achieve it. No, it ain't hate--it's called listening. There is a distinct difference between undiscovered, mixtape Nicki and this crap--and it ain't called 'growth.' #disappointed As an adult, I just can't get down with this. This for the little kiddies (**In my Tony Montanna voice**)

Billboard Explains Why They Think Nicki Minaj 'Put Female Rap Back On the Map' /

In recognition of Black History month, Billboard magazine put together a list of '29 Black Music Milestones.' On that list Billboard credits Nicki Minaj for bringing back female rap. I thought it was pretty questionable, too. But, just read thier explanation and then judge:
 
Hip-hop hasn’t been the same since Nicki Minaj walked through the doors. During a time of slim choosings — including the hiatuses of Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, and Lauryn Hill, along with the passing of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes — Nicki MInaj picked up the torch and put the female rap game back on the map.

In just two years (2010-2012), the underground rapper became a No. 1 superstar. Impressed by her mixtape hustle, Lil Wayne, quckly signed Nicki Minaj to Young Money. The rapstress stood tall on superstar artists’ tracks, such as Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Hello Good Morning (Remix)” andKanye West’s “Monster,” even before releasing her debut album, “Pink Friday.”

“Pink Friday,” released in November 2010, continues to break records. Minaj is the first female rapper to chart three titles concurrently, for five weeks, in R&B/Hip-Hop Songs’ top 10. Among women, Ashanti had previously tripled up in the top tier, for two weeks in 2002, since the chart adopted Nielsen date in 1992.

In only two years, Minaj has charted 26 songs on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. She comes in second to Missy Elliott who has gained 36 in over the span of 15 years (1997 to present).

Nicki Minaj Colors All for VOGUE Magazine /


Here is the opening to her article in the latest issue of VOGUE magazine.

She currently lives in a condo in L.A., where she moved for the weather but also to escape “some bad memories.” Though she declines to divulge much about her personal life, she readily admits to snuggling up in hotel beds, unwinding after a performance by watching Forensic Files and Judge Judy. Minaj insists she’s terrible at small talk and never goes out much, except for the occasional foray to a favorite restaurant. “I went to Negril the other night, and I brought, like, ten of the fans who were waiting outside with me, and bought them all food!”

Grammys Release Tentative List of Performers --Nicki Minaj, Kelly Clarkson & More /

This morning the Grammy association announced its first wave of performers for this year’s ceremony. The event will air on Feb. 12 on the CBS—performers will include Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Foo Fighters, Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean. Tune in to CBS at 8 p.m. to catch the event live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Grammys say that more performers will be announced. Rumor has it that Adele, who recently underwent a risky throat surgery, will give a surprise performance at the ceremony. That would be a warm welcome back for the talented soul singer.

Giuseppe names 'monster shoe' after Nicki Minaj /

Designer Giuseppe Zanotti names a sneaker in his A/W 2011 collection after the pink & perky pop star, Nicki Minaj. I guess it’s only right, being that Nicki rapped about his ‘monster shoe’ in Kanye’s third single Monster. This shiny neon & leopard print sneak screams Nicki pretty loudly. What do you all think?
