Obama's Approval Rating Shoots Up, While Republicans Duke It Out For His Job /


If you enjoy seeing Obama's oversized, pearly white smile, there has never been a better time to catch it than now! While Republicans continue going after one another in an attempt to win their party's nomination for president, President Obama sits comfortably at a 50 percent approval rating--up from 43 percent. Obama's upswing has a lot to do with the improving economy. Last month, applications for unemployment fell to a four-year low, the economy expanded by 2.8 percent, and the unemployment rate fell to 8.3 percent--a two-year low. The graph below shows that Obama crushes the competition when put in a head-to-head match up with any of the GOP contenders, including Mitt Romney.

Bad Blood In the GOP? Newt Refuses to Congratulate Mitt On Florida Win /

The bad blood between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney was boiling last night as Romney claimed his second primary victory in Florida. It is standard protocol in politics for the person who loses the race to call the winner and congratulate them on their victory—it’s a way to keep the game from getting too nasty. During his concession speech, Gingrich refused to concede the race—never mentioning Romney’s victory. Gingrich has vowed to stay in the race, refusing to give Romney and easy win. The Obama campaign couldn’t be happier about Gingrich’s pledge. See, the longer Gingrich stays in the race, the more he bashes Romney, therefore softening him up for the general election. Even though Mitt Romney will more than likely be the nominee, it is amazing to watch his favorability ratings drop with each ad that Gingrich releases. Gingrich’s so called concession speech is below.

Pres. Obama Explains Why Republican Governor Jan Brewer Had Her Fingers In His Face /

When I first saw this picture, I really didn’t think anything of it, which is why I decided not to post on it. However, I woke up this morning and looked at my Google alerts and realized the story had taken on a life of its own. Today, after becoming an embarrassment to her state of Arizona for putting her finger in the president’s face, Jan Brewer now says that she felt “threatened” by the president. I normally do not pull the race card—however, this dog-whistle racism that Republicans have been using since this president was elected is so clear to me. This is a modern-day example of ‘white woman crying rape against the angry black man.’ By the looks of this picture, I doubt that the Governor felt, in any way, threatened by the president—in fact, you can even see a slight grin on the president’s face. What it looks like is Gov. Jan Brewer chastising a president whom she doesn’t believe deserves respect.
Since Brewer’s claim that she felt “threatened” by the president went viral, two mayors of Arizona (who witnessed the meeting between the president and the governor) have come out combating her statements. One of the mayors, who happens to be a Republican, said that the exchange was a bit “awkward,” while another mayor said that the president “wasn’t tense at all” he went on to say that the president “looked Brewer straight in the eye and told her how he was really feeling.” According to the White House, Obama approached Gov. Brewer about her book, Scorpions for Breakfast, where she described the president as “patronizing” and “condescending.” Here’s Obama’s explanation of what happened---

Last Night's Republican Debate: The Mitt & Newt Clown Show /

Last night at the Florida Republican debate, it was all about Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney.  If you haven’t been following my posts about the Republican primary then shame on you! Now I have to bring you up to speed. Right now, we have four candidates left—all fighting for their party’s nomination for president—Rick Santorum, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. Romney will be the likely nominee, but since this campaign began there have been several candidates to shoot up in the polls and knock Romney off of his front-runner thrown. For the second time, Newt Gingrich has been that man. After his win against Romney in the South Carolina primary, Gingrich has the entire Republican Party biting their nails, hoping he doesn’t win the party’s nomination. Why? Because deep down, Republicans know that Gingrich’s arrogant tone, extreme positions and racial remarks will never win a general election against President Obama. Like all of the ones before, last night’s debate was a clown show—and even though it was missing two of the biggest political clowns in the Republican Party (Michele Bachmann & Rick Perry) it still managed to entertain from beginning to end. Mitt Romney decided to prove to the people that he was tough by ripping into Newt Gingrich—not for his alleged infidelities—but for the lobbying (influencing laws in order to benefit a company) that he did for Freddie Mac. The video below shows some of the toughest blows Romney has thrown throughout the campaign. This is good stuff!

Michelle Bachmann Is Out, Other GOP Candidates Move On to New Hampshire /


Just a few moments ago, after a troubling defeat, presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann bowed out of the Republican primary. Bachmann received only five percent of the caucus vote last night in Iowa. Mitt Romney Edges Out A Win In Iowa Despite Santorum Surge /


At 12:40 a.m. this morning the race for the Republican nomination for president was still too close to call. There was no surprise that Mitt Romney (left) made it to the final finish, but his challenger was a surprise to everyone outside the state of Iowa. At the last minute, Rick Santorum (right)surged ahead of all of the other GOP candidates to end up on the hems of Romney—who has managed to maintain front runner status since the beginning of the race. The Romney campaign should rightfully claim victory for their win in Iowa, but it would behoove them to acknowledge last night’s real winner—Rick Santorum. For someone like Santorum (who came from single-digit poll numbers) to come that close (eight votes) to beating someone who has managed to hold on to their front-runner status since the beginning of the campaign is the ultimate momentum builder, and that, the Romney campaign should be very afraid of. Take a look at Rick Santorum’s pretty powerful speech last night, before Mitt Romney was named Iowa’s Republican pick.

Mitt Romney spoke shortly after Santorum, giving a very combative and arrogant speech—targeting President Obama.
With unemployment numbers at a two-and-a-half-year low and 20 straight months of private sector job growth—I’m not sure the anti-Obama message that Romney’s spewing is going resonate with many Americans in the general election. Your thoughts?

Presidential Hopeful Newt Gingrich Sits Down With CNN For A Somewhat Decent Interview /

On yesterday, famed CNN journalist Wolf Blitzer sat down with presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich to talk about his chances of winning the Republican nomination. Blitzer forced Gingrich’s hand on questions about his speakership in the U.S. House of Representatives and why his own party describes him as “erratic,” “undisciplined,” and a “train wreck.” For Newt's standards, this was a pretty decent interview. You be the judge!

Prepare For Another "Great Recession" If Republicans Don't Raise Debt Ceiling /

We respect the fact that the majority of our readers are as uninterested in politics as the Pope is in rap music. But every now and then, we feel obligated to report on the political issues that will intrinsically affect each and every American—including you! The United States Debt Ceiling is like the American AMEX and although it has a limit, the United States Congress has the power to raise that limit at any point. However, Republicans in the House of Representatives have sworn to block a bill that would raise the nation’s debt limit, subsequently forcing the world markets into another free fall. Democrats and Republicans Reject Budget Deal /



Although the budget deal that kept the government from shutting down passed through the House of Representatives (260-167), the opposition was apparent. Congressional members from both sides of the aisle expressed their beef with President Obama and Speaker Boehner’s budget deal by voting against the measure in the House. Democrats feel that the President’s deal undermines programs that are crucial to the middle class and Republicans fear that the proposed budgetary cuts are not enough to sustain economic growth. Yo, can Obama live?

Of the 167 “no” votes, 59 were Republicans and a whopping 108 came from House Democrats. Several of the most powerful Democrats in Washington voted against the measure. Any of these faces look familiar?

I Smell A Rat At Fox News /

If you’re an avid watcher of Fox News and it seems like everything in the world is going unquestionably wrong, it’s probably because you’re an avid watcher of Fox News. For years I have questioned the validity of Fox’s news network (rightfully so).  Fox knew that they had failed after the 2008 presidential election because their biggest threat was (and still is) a Democratic president. During the elections, there were outrageous lies asserted about then-candidate Barack Obama (you remember: socialist, black supremacist, alien from outer space …). Consequently, those lies all came from this man—a former Washington Times reporter turned vice president of Fox News, Bill Sammon. Sammon recently exposed his lies by saying that he only pretended to believe those nasty things he said about the Obamas, calling the lies “rather farfetched … mischievous speculation.”
Did I miss something? Shouldn’t one feel comfortable turning on the news, feeling confident that the information they’re getting is factual and not fabricated. Well, my friends, Fox News has made such a privilege, a rare commodity, considering the millions of folks that tune in every day-- tricked to believe that they’re watching “real” news. Silly rabbits … Fox News is, and always will be a Republican machine. Find a new network!

Stop the Press: John McCain Has Advice on How to Win an Election /

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has some advice for those in line to challenge the President in 2012. He said that any candidate with skeletons in his or her closet should bring them to the forefront. Be it Haley Barbour’s controversial comments about race, or Sarah Palin’s complete obliviousness to everything—McCain believes that the best way to bury the issue is to take it “head on” and “try to put it behind you.” But wait, with all due respect, Senator—didn’t you lose to Obama in 2008? Should Republicans really be taking advice from you? But, whatever—I’ll toast to that!

Republican Budget = Gov’t SHUTDOWN! /

In lieu of raising taxes on the billionaires in this country, Republican House Representative Paul Ryan believes it is a good idea to eliminate Medicare in order to balance the nation’s budget. Today, the chairman of the House Budget Committee introduced a budget bill that isn’t the least bit serious. In addition to eliminating Medicare—the government-run program that provides medicine for your grandparents and elderly relatives—Mr. Ryan proposed deep cuts in programs that would improve the country’s infrastructure and create a mass amount of jobs. Transportation, energy and education were among several other key programs that Republicans in the House have placed on the chopping block, and yet their plan would increase the federal deficit by a record $8 trillion (with a “T”). In his State of the Union speech, President Obama warned that we cannot ‘win the future’ unless we invest in the very things that Republicans are attempting to eliminate. Folks, this ain’t looking good. It looks like we are on our way to a huge government shutdown.
Side note: Have Republicans agreed with anything that Pres. Obama has done in the last three years?  I mean, c’mon, surely there was ONE THING he did right!

Budget Battle 2011 -- Will The Gov't Really Shut Down? Yes It Will. /

Since putting President Obama in the White House in 2008, young people have been a lot more engaged in politics than what most might assume. Within the last couple of weeks, my little Android has been bombarded with questions about the supposed “government shut-down.” The truth is that the government does face a looming deadline (Friday, April 8) and if it cannot agree on a budget to fund the next fiscal year, as well as the remainder of this fiscal year, then yes, the government will SHUT DOWN! But cheer up, kids! This isn’t the first time the U.S. government has shut down. Most of us were still in grade school when it happened, but President Clinton was sitting in the Oval Office the last time the government shut down. In 1995 House Republicans refused to compromise with the Democratic president and as a result, the government went broke. (Sound familiar?) Today, President Obama urged House Republicans to compromise with Democrats by saying that a government shutdown would be “inexcusable.”
Here’s a short list of things that would be intangible in the midst of a gov’t shutdown:
·         WIC (Speaks for itself)
·         Welfare checks (No more 1st of the month!)
·         Gov’t employee checks (Mom & Dad’s paychecks)
·         Gov’t assisted loans (College students, Home loans)
·         Gov’t grant monies (Pell Grants)
